to organize assistance for National Olympic Committees recognized by the IOC, particularly those with the greatest needs.
Olympic Solidarity, established in 1961, is the body responsible for managing and administering part of the funds generated from television rights for the Olympic Games, which are allocated to National Olympic Committees.
Olympic Solidarity funds are distributed by the Olympic Solidarity Commission through dedicated programs, in the form of technical or financial assistance to National Olympic Committees.
Decisions regarding the allocation of funds to National Olympic Committees, as well as continental associations for sports development, are made with respect to specific needs and priorities, in accordance with Rule 5 of the Olympic Charter.
“The mission of Olympic Solidarity is to organize assistance for National Olympic Committees recognized by the IOC, particularly those with the greatest needs. This assistance takes the form of programs jointly established by the IOC and the National Olympic Committees, with technical support from international sports federations when necessary.”
Olympic Solidarity works closely with international federations whose sports are part of the Olympic program, IOC commissions, and other partners of the Olympic Movement, with the aim of developing and offering quality programs to all National Olympic Committees, especially those with the greatest needs.
For the 2021–2024 period, global programs are primarily focused on strengthening National Olympic Committees to keep athletes at the heart of the Olympic Movement, promote Olympic values, and further strengthen their internal structures.
