The free elective teaching activity "Olympic Values" was developed in cooperation between the Olympic Committee of Serbia, the Ministry of Education, and the Institute for the Advancement of Education. It is based on the philosophy of Olympism and the methodology of the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP), the official programme of the International Olympic Committee, and has been adapted to the education system of the Republic of Serbia.
Through sport, play, experiential learning and interactive activities, pupils learn about Olympic values and principles, develop life skills, and learn how to understand, embrace and apply them at school, in sport and in everyday life.
The goal of the free elective teaching activity "Olympic Values" is to support the holistic development of pupils by introducing them to Olympism as a philosophy of life that promotes the balanced development of body, will and mind, develops the Olympic values – excellence, respect and friendship – and is based on the joy of effort, fair play, the educational value of good example, social responsibility, and respect for universal ethical principles.
The programme is intended for seventh and eighth grade primary school pupils and is implemented as a free elective teaching activity.
Thanks to its strong cross-curricular connections, the programme can be delivered by teachers of various subjects, in line with their professional competencies, interests and the school's work organisation.
The Olympic Committee of Serbia provides teachers with handbooks, teaching materials, digital resources, as well as professional seminars and training for the successful implementation of the programme.
A guide has been prepared for the implementation of the free elective teaching activity "Olympic Values", providing teachers with basic guidelines for planning and delivering lessons.
